Jewish, American and outspoken. That's Charlie. He is also hard working honest and passionate about his beliefs.
Charlie grew up in Boston Massachusetts. He came to Britain in 1984 and landed his first job on offshore pirate station Laser 558. Initially it was supposed to be a six month stint. It turned out much longer than expected. Afterwards he went on to work on various radio stations in the UK and Southern Ireland including Atlantic 252.
Charlie joined talkSport in May 2000. The following year he left for Cork to help a friend set up a new radio station RedFM where he presented Cork Talks Back until he was moved to the stations breakfast show The Red Rooster. He returned to talkSport in 2002, continued working on RedFM and commuted between London and Cork. In June 2004 he was lured away from Cork by love. Charlie stayed with talkSport until he was suddenly dropped from the schedules in June 2006.
Since he left the station Charlie has been writing a weekly column for the London community newspaper the Jewish News. He has also presented shows on Shalom FM and BigL a music radio station in Frinton-on-Sea. Occasionally Charlie can be seen on television or heard on radio commenting on American politics and news stories. He also does the occasional paper review on BBC News24 and Sky News.
There is no topic that is off bounds for Charlie. His talk shows are always controversial. They are mixed with topical debate, informed opinions and clear thinking. You get the facts not fiction. Freedom and democracy are also important to him. He doesn’t like speed cameras, the London congestion charge and he can’t stand anti-fur idiots or vegetarians. Whether it’s issues at home or abroad Charlie is not afraid to say what he thinks. He knows what it takes to make good radio.
When Charlie’s not working he enjoys eating out, especially Italian and Japanese; London life and the countryside. He also regularly attends the Badminton Horse Trials.
